Felonies

North Carolina Felony Defense Attorneys Can Help to Protect Your Liberties

Providing aggressive representation for you

In North Carolina, felonies are the most serious criminal charges and the punishment is severe. When you are convicted of a felony, you lose your right to vote and the ability to find employment. Plus, you will be classified as a convicted felon for the rest of your life. When your rights and freedom are at stake, you need an experienced law firm like Hatch Little & Bunn, L.L.P. to represent you when you are arrested or charged with a felony crime.

The ten classes of felonies in North Carolina

North Carolina has structured sentencing and felonies are separated into ten different classes ― A, B1, B2, C, D, E, F, G, H, I ― based on the severity of the crime committed. For example, a Class A felony in North Carolina is the most serious crime and is punishable by death or life imprisonment, and a Class I felony is the least serious. Each situation depends on the seriousness of the charge and the criminal record of the accused to determine your sentence level, ranging from 1–7.

You can be sentenced in three ways:

  • Community sentence ― Involves supervised or unsupervised probation. Restitution is paid if necessary. Jail sentence is suspended during the probation period
  • Intermediate or split sentence ― You receive a probation period and time in jail
  • Active sentence ― You are assigned a number of months in jail

Our criminal defense attorneys assess your case to determine if a plea bargain or trial is your best option.
