Doug has been a Board Certified Specialist in Business and Consumer Bankruptcy since 1987. After graduating from Yale Law School and earning an L.L.M. from Harvard Law School, Doug accepted a position as professor of law at the University of Tennessee Law School and stayed for 15 years, teaching such classes as Debtor-Creditor, Civil Procedure, Municipal Law and Commercial Law. Doug came to Hatch, Little & Bunn, LLP in 1995 and practices extensively in the area of bankruptcy. However, he still has a love for teaching — he taught a course in bankruptcy at the North Carolina Central University Law School in 1999 and was an adjunct professor teaching civil procedure to NC Central’s first-year night school law students from 2000.
Doug is licensed to practice in all North Carolina state and federal courts, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. He has been a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute Committee on UCC Issues since 1999-2002. From 1987 through 1998, Doug served on the American Bar Association’s Business Bankruptcy Committee and Commercial Financial Services Committee. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and has served on numerous CLE and advisory committees and served on the Bankruptcy Section Council from 1999 through 2002. Doug has been a member of the Wake County Bar Association since 1987. He has been designated by his peers as a Super Lawyer (2010 and 2013).
Doug and his wife Betty are both active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where Doug sings in the choir. They have two grown children.
